Adjective versus participle

Participles combine verbal and adjectival properties: they agree like adjectives but encode action, voice, aspect, or temporal/result relations.

  • Dependents expressing agent, object, time, place, or manner support an eventive analysis. Lexicalised forms can shift toward stable adjective meanings.
