Role, profession, and resulting state
After быть in non-present tenses, стать, явля́ться, and several role constructions, instrumental presents a role, classification, or attained state.
- A long adjective inside the predicate phrase agrees with its instrumental head noun; an adjective alone may also take instrumental after some copular frames.
