Restricted locative, partitive, vocative, and count forms
Russian has remnants and construction-specific forms beyond the six productive case paradigms, but they do not create twelve more general modules.
- These forms are real evidence that analyses may identify more than six Russian cases. Pedagogically, each belongs where its construction becomes useful rather than in a complete productive case table.
| Restricted form | Example | Status |
|---|---|---|
| second locative | в лесу́; на мосту́; в крови́ | location only; lexical set |
| partitive genitive | вы́пить ча́ю; доба́вить са́хару | amount reading; optional/restricted |
| count form | два часа́; два шага́ | quantity construction; special stress for some nouns |
| new colloquial vocative | Маш! Саш! мам! пап! | direct address; often vowel truncation |
| old/fixed vocative | Бо́же! Го́споди! о́тче | religious, archaic, or fixed |
Mini-check
1. Classify в лесу́ and вы́пить ча́ю. 2. Is Маш! a general seventh-case ending for all nouns?
Register
Маш! is familiar direct address, not a neutral form for every context. Use full Ма́ша or an appropriate name/title when social distance requires it.
