Accompaniment and groups
с + instrumental plural marks companions or associated groups; ме́жду locates relations among plural reference points.
- Compare с друзья́ми 'with friends' with от друзе́й 'from friends'. The preposition and case jointly separate accompaniment from source.
- Governed conversation: говори́ть с детьми́ frames a conversation with them; говори́ть де́тям frames speech directed to them. Instrumental versus dative changes the relation.
